"Got the book, read it that night, read it in the morning, kept reading till I finished. I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN. The book rings with authenticity and heart." John Cullum, two time Tony Award winner.

HIDDEN AND IMMINENT DANGERS is more than a medical thriller. A pandemic of apocalyptic magnitude strikes threatening the demise of world order. Special Forces veteran and ER nurse Mac MacIntosh spends his days navigating the bedlam of a Louisville, Kentucky, hospital. Though his work is rewarding and his family life happy, Mac can't shake the haunting memories of his time in war-torn Afghanistan. He can't forget the violence and social upheaval he witnessed there. When a flu-stricken patient arrives, infectious disease specialist Dr. Mercato Marcus suspects the patient's symptoms may indicate a far more serious problem. The hospital becomes ground zero for a deadly mutant strain of avian flu. A frightening glimpse of the catastrophic potential of a global pandemic is shown. It gives a sobering depiction of inadequate political, medical, and legal systems as the crisis mushrooms.

Hidden and Imminent Dangers eBook D W Hardin

This is a mixture of medical mystery, military, and science fiction bordering on post-apocalyptic. In a way it is a combination of Robin Cook, Tom Clancy, and Steven Konkoly all wrapped in one.

"Mac" MacIntosh is a military veteran who was a medic that became a nurse. He enjoys working as an ER nurse at UCH in Louisville, Kentucky. It has its share of trauma, tragedy, and crazies just like any other similar hospital. Meanwhile a series of events causes a young man to become seriously ill. The young man doesn't understand the necessity covering his nose or mouth when sneezing or coughing. You guessed it, he spread his illness. The incompetence of the hospital management delay the deadly diagnosis. Politicians are covering their collective buns. All the while good and evil are battling it out for earth-bound souls.

I'd give this story 4.75 stars because of some minor formatting issues that took me a little bit away from the story, otherwise it is really great. The author touched on many issues: medical, political, military, and religious. He blended them very well, given a great overall picture while also sharing some intimate details on a few of the major characters. I loved that even the so called 'good guys' had flaws.

Warning: This book is for Mature Audiences due to moderately graphic violence, sexual situations, and adult language.

Hidden and Imminent Dangers eBook D W Hardin Reviews

This is not a happy, fluffy story! It is well-researched, and believably realistic. The political squabbling and shirking of responsibility ring all too sadly true. The reason I give it four stars instead of five is that this might be the first book I've ever read in which I liked the story, but didn't actually like the characters. Now I know I don't need to like the characters for the story to be readable!
I am torn as to how many stars I should give this book. It has its moments but...in light of the the ebola crisis in the world today, this book does show how fast an infectious disease can cross continents with the speed of travel. I found parts of the the book disjointed as if the author just had to throw something in to fill up the pages.
Unlike his previous Police novels that were easy to follow all the way through, this book was a terrifying story that could possibly happen but like so many authors do, he put different characters and situations in each chapter and somtimes every few paragraphs that, of course, all came together
in the end but made it hard for me to follow.
Although it has an interesting plot and could have been a really good read, the book is dreadful due to truly awful writing. Sentences too choppy, stilted, unrealistic conversation, way too much description of medicine dosages and needle gauges, and who really cares that the heroine doctor prefers plain cotton panties? In fact, I skipped a lot of the descriptive parts because I really didn't care how a minor character looked or what he/she was wearing. I don't recall if this book was a freebie or cost 99 cents, but in my opinion that's about what it's worth. There's no chance I'd ever read anything else this author wrote, even if it's free.
Once I began reading "Hidden and Imminent Dangers", I couldn't put it down. He is able to take a believable premise of a pandemic and mix it with politics, law enforcement and a little theology thrown in for good measure. The medical part of the story was absolutely believable even to some of the mistakes that led to the death of certain characters, acting like normal humans and forgetting to follow safety procedures.

As an ex-military person, who is also a clergy person. The military portion of the story also rings true. The theological aspect of the story could actually have morphed into a completely new book about the possible evils of religion when used to satisfy one's own sick and twisted desires. I could truly see the crazy cult leader "ordering" the death of Samuel "The Reverend" but not actually trying to do it personally.

The growth of this author as a writer is very evident in this body of work. I cannot wait to read the next book he writes, it is sure to be even better.
Wow, what a read. Especially with the things going on now concerning Ebola. This story hits so close to home for anyone reading it that it will have you sitting down and not wanting to stop reading until you reach the end.
What starts out as a simple case of the flu turns into a real edge of your seat nail biter. The things that can happen when a disease gets completely out of control are unbelievable, until you read this one, that is. I won't elaborate too much concerning storyline except to say that this one has people making serious mistakes, plenty of ongoing intrigue, excitement, romance, pain and disappointment all rolled into one story that could so easily happen given today's world conditions, it might even scare you, the reader. Read it and you will not be disappointed....
Okay, so I was bored and downloaded four samples of books that I didn't think I would be interested in just to pass the time. Three out of four convinced me by the end of the sample that I would be wasting my money on purchasing them. The fourth sample, this book, had me hooked by the first third of the sample. There was no doubt in my mind that I would be purchasing it and following Mac, "Peanuts" and gang through the rest of the novel.

So I have now finished the novel and am truly impressed. You can tell the book is fiction (an Independent for President who doesn't truly care if he gets impeached????!!!!) but it is truly a good overview about the damage that a pandemic can do to our society without focusing on the blood/guts, shoot outs, political rally. Patient Zero is a just a poor schmuck working on his dad's farm. The other characters are very life-like, complete with strengths and weaknesses. The "official" responses are very likely.
The writing style is very fluid and definitely keeps you reading. It even has a couple of huge twists at the end (no I won't spoil them).

Read it - you'll enjoy it!
